Award-winning Boharat Spice is the result of a collaboration with Chef Tarik Abdullah. Used throughout the Middle Eastern cuisine he grew up with, his fragrant boharat blend features black pepper, cardamom, cloves, cumin, nutmeg, coriander, paprika, and cinnamon. He combined this savory spice blend with our 61% Peruvian dark chocolate to create a warm and aromatic artisan chocolate bar. The beans are carefully fermented 7 days, dried for seven days and have a medium roast.
Tarik is a community-based organizer and chef who has been feeding and educating communities and families in the South End of Seattle for over a decade. In 2013, he founded his organization Feed The People, which is dedicated to providing quality food access and education to the communities of color in south Seattle.
Boharat Spice was awarded Silver for the Best Inclusion Bar by the Chocolate Alliance an award that celebrates the best chocolates in the world.
In addition to paying farmers fairly, jcoco donates 10% of net profits to providing additional support to cacao farmers.

About This Bar
-
flavor
Boharat is a warm, earthy mix with smoky, sweet, and slightly spicy tones perfectly balanced in cacao forward dark chocolate. Sometimes used in savory dishes, our unique fine flavored cacao is layered with peppery clove, herbal tea notes, and a hint of root beer.
-
sourcing
Our 61% Peruvian chocolate is sustainably sourced from family owned and operated farms in the high Amazonia region known as Rupa Rupa. Mineral-rich water from the Andes mountains runs off into this area, creating fertile soil ideal for growing cacao. It is known for producing fine flavor, high aroma cacao.
-
perfect pairings
Enjoy the warmth and round aromatic flavor of our Boharat Spice chocolate bar with a dry Riesling, a spice forward Sangiovese or a smooth cold brew for an afternoon pickup. It is also delightful with a 24-month parmesan with dried apricots, cherries and nuts.
Putting Farmers First
Working directly with farmers in the region, we cut out the middle man—ensuring that more money goes to the farmers. We also invest in helping to improve post-harvest processes like fermentation and drying, and ensure the quality and flavor profile of the cacao.
